What does the end of the Dutch net metering scheme mean for my solar panels?

The Dutch net metering scheme will end on 1 January 2027. From that date, you will no longer be able to offset the electricity you feed back into the grid against the electricity you take from it. You will still receive compensation for the electricity you export.

This makes using more of your own solar energy financially more relevant. You can use it directly while your panels are generating electricity or store excess solar energy in a home battery for later. Smart energy management automatically coordinates generation, storage and consumption.
