How many panels can I connect in 1 string per MPP tracker on my Taylor inverter?

How many panels can I connect in 1 string per MPP tracker on my Taylor inverter?

Below table shows information on the amount of panels you can or should use per MPPT on your inverter. Maximum amount of panels depends on your maximum input voltage of your inverter, minimum amount of panels needed depends on your minimum MPPT voltage.

‍
Note that:

  1. Below voltages are temperature corrected from Standard Test Conditions (STC). E.g. clouds create a scenario below 1000W/m2, which lowers your total system voltage.
  2. In shadow situations (e.g. chimney close to the panels), take a higher number for minimum amount of panels to make sure your system works optimal.
  3. With a taylor system, only connect 1 string per MPP tracker to your inverter. It is not possible to use 2 strings per MPP tracker.

*all systems and environments are unique, below is a guideline which needs adjustment per case. In case of any doubt contact our support department, we are happy to help.

* The above numbers are based on corrected Standard Test Conditions (STC) values > (STC: 1000W/m2 & 25C)

* For the maximum voltage scenario, the total system voltage is calculated at -15C.

* For the minimum voltage scenario, the total system voltage is calculated at +80C.

What to do in case of poor 4G connectivity?

What to do in case of poor 4G connectivity?

In case of no or poor 4G connectivity, we advise to use a powerline adapter. With a powerline adapter, you can easily connect the taylor gateway to ethernet via the power grid in the house.

‍

Required materials

‍

Process

  1. Connect one Devolo Magic 1 LAN to your Internet router using an ethernet cable.
  2. Connect the other Devolo Magic 1 LAN to the gateway using an ethernet cable.
  3. Plug both Devolo Magic 1 LAN adapters into available power sockets within 3 minutes. As soon as the LEDs on both adapters flash white at regular intervals of 0.5 sec., they are ready to operate and automatically start the process of establishing an encrypted connection to each other.
    1. Tip: the same wall socket can be used for the gateway and your Internet router can be used by the Devolo Magic 1 LAN, no additional wall socket is needed.
    2. If the LEDs on both devolo Magic adapters light up in white, then your devolo Magic network has been set up according to your individual specifications and is protected from unauthorised access.

What is a Cell String and what is meant by Cell String Optimization?

What is a Cell String and what is meant by Cell String Optimization?

A typical solar module exist of 3 (or 6) Cell Strings. A cell string is a row of solar cells connect in series to each other. With Cell String Optimization taylor modules are able to maximize the output of every Cell String specifically using integrated taylor electronics, resulting in more power in shading conditions and during cell degradation over a period of time.

How are my energy costs and earnings calculated?

How are my energy costs and earnings calculated?

To give you clear and instant insights without needing the details of your energy contract, your dashboard uses a few simplified assumptions. This means results are a close estimate, not an exact match to your energy bill, but reliable enough to spot trends and make smart decisions.

‍

What we assume:

‍

Net metering for solar export.
We assume that over the course of a year, you import more energy from the grid than you export back to it. This means we apply net metering to all your solar export.

Standard energy tax rate applied.
Energy tax in the Netherlands is tiered, with a higher rate applying above 10,000 kWh of annual usage. We apply the standard lower-usage rate, so if your household uses more than 10,000 kWh per year, your actual tax costs may differ slightly.

Annual energy tax rebate not included.
‍
In the Netherlands, households receive a fixed annual energy tax rebate (heffingskorting) via their energy supplier. We don't factor this into our calculations, so your displayed costs may appear slightly higher than your actual bill.

‍

All prices shown are all-in, including energy tax, supplier handling fees and VAT. Costs charged by your grid operator, such as transport and connection fees, are not included. For an exact breakdown, refer to your energy supplier's bill.

What is the Taylor Energy Management System (EMS) and what are the requirements and responsibilities?

What is the Taylor Energy Management System (EMS) and what are the requirements and responsibilities?

Requirements & Responsibilities
  • The EMS requires a stable wired internet connection. Without it, the EMS will stop functioning. Power Line Communication adapters are allowed.
  • Taylor provides infrastructure only and is not responsible for trading activities.
  • Taylor cannot be held liable for missed opportunities, extra costs, or market impacts caused by downtime, network issues, or trading decisions.
Open Energy Manager

The Open Energy Manager automatically controls the charging and discharging of the battery to keep your energy costs as low as possible. In one of the upcoming releases (planned for this summer), it will be able to turn off solar production during negative electricity prices if the battery is full, or if it is planned to be charged later in the day due to price differences. Later this year, heat pumps and electric vehicle charging stations will also be controllable.

The financial benefit is greatest with a dynamic energy contract, but the Energy Manager can also provide benefits with a variable or fixed contract.

The Energy Manager reduces your electricity costs in several ways:

1 . Use more of your own solar energy (increase self-consumption)

The more of your own generated solar energy you use directly yourself, the less electricity you need to purchase from your energy supplier.

This benefit will become even greater when the net metering scheme is completely abolished in 2027.

  • The battery plays an important role in this:
  • During the day (for example in the afternoon), a surplus of solar energy is stored.
  • In the evening, you use this stored energy, so that you need to purchase less or no electricity.
  • In the future, the Energy Manager may also allow your heat pump or electric vehicle to heat up or charge extra when a lot of solar energy is available.
2. Smart purchasing at low prices

On days with little sunshine (for example in winter), you may generate insufficient energy for your own consumption.

In that case, the battery can purchase electricity at times when the electricity price is low (sometimes even negative with a dynamic contract). You use this energy later, when the price is higher.

3. Smart feed-in at high prices

On sunny days (for example in summer), you may produce more solar energy than you consume yourself.

In that case, the battery can feed energy back into the grid at times when the price is highest.

4. Trading with remaining battery capacity

If there is still capacity available in the battery, it can also actively respond to price differences:

  • Purchase electricity when it is cheap (for example when there is a lot of sunshine in the Netherlands).
  • Sell electricity when it is more expensive (for example in the evening when demand is high).
How does the Energy Manager determine this?

The Energy Manager makes a daily forecast of:

  • The expected solar energy production
  • Your expected energy consumption
  • The electricity prices for the next day (day-ahead prices)

Based on this, the system automatically calculates an optimal strategy. This results in control signals for the battery (and later for the solar panels).

If something changes during the day (for example the weather or your consumption), the Energy Manager automatically adjusts the planning.

Explanation of the graphs in the app

In the current version of the app you see:

  • Light blue bars above the zero line: electricity that you have imported from the grid.
  • Dark blue bars below the zero line: electricity that you have fed back into the grid.
  • The line: the day-ahead electricity prices in the Netherlands.

These day-ahead prices are wholesale prices, excluding VAT and energy tax.

Your dynamic energy contract (for example with Energie VanOns) is based on these wholesale prices, with:

  • A small supplier markup
  • Including energy tax and VAT

In the new version of the app (expected in March or April), the full hourly price will be visible as you actually pay it to your energy supplier.

We expect to publish a renewed version of the EMS tab in the app in March or April, with clearer information and more extensive price transparency.

Why is 1 panel producing less than other panels?

Why is 1 panel producing less than other panels?

If a panel is overshadowed it may experience reduced yield. This overshadowing can be caused by a neighbors roof, chimney or tree for example. There are many other reasons why a panel could have reduced yield, for example, corner soiling, leaf fall, bird droppings, etc. If  there is no possible reason for reduced yield, please send an email to: support@taylor.solar

Why do I see a difference in total energy produced by the inverter compared to the sum of energy produced by my solar panels?

Why do I see a difference in total energy produced by the inverter compared to the sum of energy produced by my solar panels?

It is possible that there is a difference between the output (energy) value of the inverter compared to the output (energy) value of your solar panels combined. This is caused by a combination of module energy measurement accuracy, inverter energy measurement accuracy and intergration time of both data output. If the difference over a week is more then 5% please contact support@taylor.solar.

Safe voltage
‍
taylor. modules only provide power when necessary, following Sunspec protocol. If you power down the gateway, your solar panel will only produce 1 volt per panel. This also means that during installation or maintenance, the solar panels have a safe voltage.

Less MC4 connectors neededWith integrated CSO’s less MC4 connectors are needed, which lowers install costs & risk of installation mistakes.

Overtemperature
